The Six Long Weekends in 2026
2026 is an unusually generous year. Six long weekends arrive without spending any annual leave, because three holidays fall on a Sunday and two more fall on a Friday.
Good Friday on 3 April and Labour Day on 1 May both land on a Friday. Vesak Day on Sunday 31 May, National Day on Sunday 9 August and Deepavali on Sunday 8 November each carry a gazetted Monday replacement, giving a Saturday-to-Monday break. Christmas Day closes the year on Friday 25 December.
If you want to go further, two windows are worth booking early. Chinese New Year falls on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 February — take Monday 16 plus Thursday 19 and Friday 20 and you have nine days off for three days of leave. In late May, Hari Raya Haji on Wednesday 27 May sits four days before the Vesak Day weekend; two days of leave on 28 and 29 May turn it into a six-day break.
Two Dates That Need a Closer Look
Hari Raya Puasa, Saturday 21 March. This is the only 2026 holiday that falls on a Saturday. It is not automatically moved to Monday. If Saturday is a non-working day for you, your employer owes you either a day off in lieu or an extra day’s salary at the gross rate of pay — the choice is theirs, and it is worth confirming in writing. The three Sunday holidays. Vesak Day, National Day and Deepavali all fall on a Sunday in 2026, so the following Mondays — 1 June, 10 August and 9 November — are gazetted public holidays for everyone. Can I use this calendar for payroll or HR planning?
Yes — the dates are accurate and include the gazetted Monday replacements, which is what payroll systems need. Do note that the Saturday holiday on 21 March is handled by company policy rather than a gazetted replacement day, so your leave system will need that entered manually.
