ITE school holidays depend entirely on which intake a student joined. ITE (Institute of Technical Education) students often get confused when they compare notes with friends at polytechnics or MOE schools — the holidays never seem to match. That’s because ITE runs on its own intake-based structure, and it actually publishes separate calendars depending on whether you started in January or April, and whether you’re on a Nitec or Higher Nitec / Diploma track. Here’s what we could confirm for 2026/2027.

Why ITE Has Two Intakes — and Why It Matters for Holidays
ITE is the only part of Singapore’s education system where the answer to “when are the holidays” depends entirely on when you started. Two separate intakes run in parallel, each with its own semester structure and its own vacation dates.
The January intake covers Nitec courses and three-year Higher Nitec programmes. Its academic year is closest to the familiar pattern: a first semester running through the first half of the year, a mid-year vacation, and a second semester closing in the final months.
The April intake covers Technical Diplomas and two-year Higher Nitec programmes, and it sits roughly a quarter out of step. Its long vacation falls at a different point in the year entirely. A household with one child on each intake will find the two sets of holidays barely overlap.
If you are unsure which applies, check the enrolment letter rather than guessing. The intake month is printed on it, and it determines every date that follows for the length of the course.
Industrial Attachment Takes Over the Vacation
Almost every ITE course includes a compulsory Industrial Attachment, and it routinely runs straight through a published vacation period. Attachments typically last between eight and twenty-four weeks depending on the course, and during that time the student follows the host company’s working calendar — not ITE’s.
That means a student on attachment works normal office or workshop hours, takes leave according to the company’s policy, and is present on days the campus is closed. Public holidays are the exception: the eleven gazetted holidays apply to the workplace as well, unless the company operates through them.
Before booking family travel, confirm three things: the attachment start and end dates, whether the placement is paid employment or an unpaid attachment, and what the company’s leave policy is for attachment students. The published ITE calendar answers none of these.
Public Holidays During the ITE Year
All eleven gazetted public holidays close ITE campuses across both intakes. The dates that fall inside teaching weeks are the ones worth marking: Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Good Friday, Hari Raya Haji, Vesak Day, National Day and Deepavali. What happens if a public holiday falls during an examination period?
Examinations are never scheduled on a gazetted public holiday. If a holiday falls inside an assessment window, the papers are arranged around it and the examination timetable issued by ITE takes account of the date. Students should work from the issued timetable rather than assuming a standard weekly pattern.
