Singapore Long Weekends 2028: Best Dates & Easy Leave Plan
If you are mapping out annual leave early, Singapore long weekends 2028 are worth a close look. On the projected calendar there are five three-day weekends that cost nothing in leave, plus one stretch in early May where four leave days buy eleven days off in a row. Everything below is based on calculated lunar and lunisolar dates, because the Ministry of Manpower normally gazettes a year of public holidays only about twelve months ahead.
How Many Long Weekends Does Singapore Have in 2028?
On current projections there are five three-day weekends in 2028 that a Monday-to-Friday employee gets without touching annual leave. That is the same count as the year before, so Singapore long weekends 2028 reward planning rather than luck. It matches 2027, but the shape of the year is better: three of the five sit inside a single six-week window between late February and early May.
| Dates off | Why | Days |
|---|---|---|
| Sat 26 – Mon 28 Feb | Hari Raya Puasa falls on Sunday 27 Feb, so Monday 28 Feb is the holiday in lieu | 3 |
| Fri 14 – Sun 16 Apr | Good Friday on a Friday | 3 |
| Sat 29 Apr – Mon 1 May | Labour Day on a Monday | 3 |
| Fri 5 – Sun 7 May | Hari Raya Haji on a Friday | 3 |
| Sat 23 – Mon 25 Dec | Christmas Day on a Monday | 3 |
Two holidays land midweek and give nothing on their own: National Day on Wednesday 9 August and Deepavali on Tuesday 17 October. New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday, which is its own problem — more on that below.

May 2028 Is the Best Leave Trade of the Year
Of all the Singapore long weekends 2028 offers, this is the one to protect. Three holidays cluster inside nine days: Labour Day on Monday 1 May, Hari Raya Haji on Friday 5 May and Vesak Day on Tuesday 9 May. The gaps between them are small enough that a modest leave request covers an unusually long break.
Book Tuesday 2, Wednesday 3, Thursday 4 and Monday 8 May — four days of leave. You are then away from Saturday 29 April through Tuesday 9 May: eleven consecutive days off. Nothing else in 2028 comes close to that ratio.
If four days is more than you can spare, take just the three midweek days (2–4 May) and you still get Saturday 29 April to Sunday 7 May — nine days off. Or take only Monday 8 May and you get Saturday 6 to Tuesday 9 May for a single leave day.
One practical warning: this is a popular window. Labour Day and Hari Raya Haji weeks tend to fill up early in most teams, so put the request in as soon as your company opens its 2028 leave calendar.
Singapore Long Weekends 2028: Every Bridge Worth Planning
| Window | Leave days | Total break |
|---|---|---|
| Sat 29 Apr – Tue 9 May | 4 (2, 3, 4 and 8 May) | 11 days |
| Sat 23 Dec – Mon 1 Jan 2029 | 4 (26–29 Dec) | 10 days |
| Sat 22 – Sun 30 Jan (Chinese New Year) | 2 (24–25 Jan) | 9 days |
| Sat 8 – Sun 16 Apr (Good Friday) | 4 (10–13 Apr) | 9 days |
| Sat 5 – Sun 13 Aug (National Day) | 4 (7, 8, 10 and 11 Aug) | 9 days |
| Wed 26 – Sun 30 Jan (cheap CNY option) | 1 (28 Jan) | 5 days |
| Sat 14 – Tue 17 Oct (Deepavali) | 1 (16 Oct) | 4 days |
The Christmas-into-New-Year run is the second-best deal of the year, and it is easy to miss. Christmas Day is Monday 25 December 2028 and 1 January 2029 falls on a Monday too. Four leave days between them (26 to 29 December) gives ten days off — and that block usually clashes with fewer colleagues than the May one.
Chinese New Year 2028 Falls Midweek
Chinese New Year 2028 is projected for Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 January. Midweek festival dates split the week awkwardly, but they are also cheap to extend. One leave day on Friday 28 January turns it into a five-day break. Two days before it, Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 January, turn it into nine days from Saturday 22 January.
If you travel to visit family for the festival, the second option is usually the better one — you arrive before the reunion dinner rather than after it.
What Happens to New Year’s Day on a Saturday?
New Year’s Day 2028 is a Saturday, and Singapore does not automatically push it to the Monday.
Under the Employment Act, an employee on a five-day week whose rest day or non-working day coincides with a public holiday is entitled to either a day off in lieu or an extra day’s salary — and the employer decides which. Whether you get 3 January off depends entirely on company policy, so ask HR rather than assuming. We cover the rules in detail on public holidays that fall on a Saturday.
Lining Up With School Holidays
Singapore long weekends 2028 are only half the picture for families. Parents have a second constraint: the MOE term calendar. The Ministry of Education usually releases term dates roughly a year ahead, so 2028 school holidays are not published yet.
The pattern is stable though — a one-week break in March, four weeks across June, a week in September and the long year-end break from late November. On that pattern the March 2028 break and the Good Friday weekend of 14 April will not overlap, so a family trip in April means taking the children out of school or waiting for the June window.
Our Singapore school holidays page tracks the dates as MOE confirms them, and the 2027 term dates give you the closest usable guide in the meantime.
How Firm Are These 2028 Dates?
It depends on the holiday. Half of the Singapore long weekends 2028 projections sit on fixed dates and will not move at all. New Year’s Day, Labour Day, National Day and Christmas Day are fixed to the Gregorian calendar and will not move. Good Friday is calculated from the Western Easter formula and is also settled. Chinese New Year, Vesak Day and Deepavali come from astronomical calculations of the Chinese lunisolar and Hindu calendars, which are reliable decades out, although the gazetted day occasionally differs by one from published projections.
The two genuinely uncertain dates are Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji. Both depend on moon sighting confirmed by MUIS, so 27 February and 5 May 2028 could each shift by a day. That matters for the May block: if Hari Raya Haji moves to Saturday 6 May, the eleven-day run shortens. Book refundable fares if your plans hinge on those two.
2028 Compared With 2027
| 2027 | 2028 | |
|---|---|---|
| Free long weekends | 5 | 5 |
| Holidays on a weekend | 2 | 1 (New Year’s Day) |
| Best single bridge | See 2027 guide | 11 days for 4 leave days |
| Midweek holidays | 2 | 3 |
On paper the two years look similar. The difference is that Singapore long weekends 2028 concentrate in a single six-week run rather than spreading evenly. In practice 2028 is the better planning year, because the May cluster lets one leave request do the work of two.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many Singapore long weekends 2028 will there be?
Five three-day weekends arrive without any annual leave: 26–28 February, 14–16 April, 29 April–1 May, 5–7 May and 23–25 December. Two more holidays fall midweek and need a leave day to become a break.
What is the longest break I can get in 2028 without using much leave?
Four leave days on 2, 3, 4 and 8 May give eleven consecutive days off, from Saturday 29 April to Tuesday 9 May. The second-best is 26–29 December, which gives ten days off through to 1 January 2029.
Will I get a day off for New Year’s Day 2028 if it falls on a Saturday?
Not automatically. Singapore does not move a Saturday public holiday to the following Monday. For a five-day-week employee the Employment Act provides either a day off in lieu or an extra day’s salary, and the employer chooses which one. Check your company handbook.
Are the 2028 public holiday dates confirmed by MOM yet?
No. The Ministry of Manpower normally gazettes a year’s public holidays around twelve months in advance, so the official 2028 list is still to come. The dates here are calculated projections.
Is it too early to book flights for the May 2028 break?
Airlines generally open schedules about eleven to twelve months ahead, so May 2028 fares will not be bookable until roughly mid-2027. Pencil the leave dates in now and set a reminder for when the schedules open.
Why is there no separate holiday in lieu for Hari Raya Puasa in 2028?
There is one. Hari Raya Puasa falls on Sunday 27 February, so Monday 28 February is gazetted as the replacement day. That is what creates the 26–28 February long weekend.
Does Chinese New Year 2028 give a long weekend on its own?
No. The two days land on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 January, in the middle of the week. One leave day on Friday 28 January extends it to five days off, and two days beforehand stretch it to nine.
